Christmas greetings

Wherever we are, spread out all around the globe, come the 25th of Dec (and probably also the 24th), Christmas will overtake us. And whether its attending a mass in Barcelona, or sitting in a pew in US, or singing carols in LCGC in Liverpool, or running under the heavy rain in Malaysia, we'll each celebrate Christmas day in our own fashion.

Back in LCGC, when we had our Christmas event on Friday evening, I was struggling to think of how to present Christmas in a fresh and unpredictable way. "Surely," I told Ed, "Everyone must be so tired of the whole Christmas story about the virgin birth by now." But how could we re-produce the story of Christmas?

Two years ago, LCGC told the story of how Jesus' birth was actually a top-secret mission at the height of the battle in the heavenly realms for dominance. As Satan and his demons battled angels, Jesus was inserted into a manger in Bethlehem via the unlikely method of a human birth. And thus did God win the fight for our lives.

This time around, we'd run out of ideas.

In the end, maybe due to the fact that we were running out of time, the story of Christmas was re-told again, using the Message. Looking back, I think that was the right thing to do in the end. It may not have had the dramatic effect caused by an act or a play, or the expectancy generated by the telling of a fresh new story, but it had the distinct mark of something else.

It was the truth.

Jesus was really born all that time ago. Not really on the 24th of Dec perhaps, but there's the wonder of it. For in spite of all the controversy surrounding the origin of Christmas, two facts remain:
People celebrate the birth of Jesus.

It's a time where families and friends get together, where giving is more important than receiving, in short, where love is felt.

And this is the crucial point. Almost without a word or command from God, a time is set apart during the year to celebrate Jesus' birth, in an atmosphere of love. Isn't that striking? For Jesus' birth was the supreme act of love towards mankind. What better way to celebrate love, Godly love, than to remember His birth, and to share it with others in various ways this Christmas?

Happy Christmas to you guys, wherever you are!

All The Right Things

After a weekend of what seems like non-stop church, I should be feeling great. On Top Of The World. But instead I feel tired. Slightly depressed at having to start the week so soon without having had enough rest. Even after I think I've done all the right things.

Things that have encouraged me however:

- Serving with new musicians on Sunday (Suet May was on piano for the first time in Sunday service, Sing Yee was singing for the first time and it was Ed's first time on the guitar on Sunday as well I think)

- Ed's sharing on worship today. It's nice to hear someone sharing passionately about worship and realising that you're going to be working with him for the rest of the year.

- "Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom."

"He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not faint."

A chance sharing with a friend on Thursday from Isaiah 40:28-31 kept me going.

- Lydia's prompt response to my request for video clips from people regarding their thoughts on Christmas. In a CD some more!

- Christmas is coming!

Antioxidants vs Free Radicals

In the medical world, free radicals are deemed harmful to the human beings. Due to its unstable and highly reactive nature, it accelerates the progression of many ghastly problems.
Such as wrinkle-faces which every lady in general fears!

For example:

So, what's here to save the day??? Antioxidants!! It prevents the oxidation process, which generates free radicals. It's like the... 21st century Youth Potion!

Jon probably wouldn't want me to elaborate too much on antioxidants, since antioxidants sort of antagonise what he's trying to advocate - be unstable, be reactive with God.

Well, girls, sacrifice something once for God alright?

I know, a silly post. But i'm just trying to have some fun! :p

Why Free Radicals?

"These unpaired electrons are usually highly reactive, so radicals are likely to take part in chemical reactions."

"Radicals play an important role in combustion, atmospheric chemistry, polymerization, plasma chemistry, biochemistry, and many other chemical processes, including human physiology."

- Wikipedia :-)

Unpaired, but needing each other.

Because alone, they are ineffective, unable to carry out their purpose.

Their God-given purpose.

Much like us.

Why blog?

This blog is a platform for us to:
- what God has been speaking to us
- share our thoughts
- our ideas on various things connected to student fellowship
- what's been going on in our lives recently
- interesting stuff we've been reading, Bible-wise or other books
- prayer requests

If everyone is willing to post once in a while (not too long a while haha), no one will feel under pressure to blog often to keep this blog going.

Eventually we might invite more people from SF to blog here, but for now lets start small with the core people, and encourage one another first:-)

Blog away!
